Client: University of the Third Age (U3A)
A recent study has showed that only 55% of the over 65s used mobile apps to communicate with other people in the first half of 2020, which is significantly lower than the 88% of the age group between 18 to 34. The risk of digital exclusion increases with a person’s age, especially when it comes to access and digital ability. University of the Third Age (U3A) is actively looking for a solution for the social problem of digital exclusion of senior people.
By collaborating with the client who is associated with University of the Third Age (U3A) and working with experts from various sectors, our team have created an engaging and interactive design concept for an online training resource. The course is designed to boost seniors’ confidence in their digital skills, enables them to practice and consolidate these skills in a hypothetical online shopping scenario.
This simulation includes features such as setting up an account, login, shopping cart purchasing, safe credit/debit card check out, electronic prescription ordering, managing SMS messaging prompts for prescriptions, tracking of purchases and general navigating.
In this project, I was mainly responsible for the user experience, aesthetics and interactivity.

Solution
Currently available online tools are not tailored to the needs and values of senior citizens. They provide instructions and information in a unidirectional fashion.
Therefore, we decided to create an engaging & interactive training for online shopping by using engaging short instruction videos and step-by-step interactive activities.
